Kuna

AKA: The Big-Headed Beast!
I got this fella in Calgary from the local pound. He had totally destroyed EVERYTHING in his kennel - blankets, toys, you name it, he destroyed it. No wonder no one wanted to take him home...hmmm...
Here he is in his usual spot at the beginning of a run. Lookit him go!! He's actually loping and going full-out! He's usually got a nice little trot. But he has crappy feet and needs booties almost all winter.

I just fell in love with his big personality and confidence. He doesn't lack in that department AT ALL. He's caused his share of trouble as other dogs came along. Perhaps it was jealousy as he once had me all to himself? He's adapted pretty well, but is definitely the boss of the yard. No one screws with him... except a wee thing half his size named Gracie, but that's another story.
He weighs around 90lbs yet still loves to come out running with us. He doesn't dig pulling at all, never did, but I usually have him in a harness anyways, tied to the sled or 4-wheeler when we are near the highway or people. As a friend described it, he kind of "bobs" along beside us. He's done up to 16-mile runs with me and the team, and sets his own pace after I let him loose. He'll run up ahead, annoy the leaders a bit, then get side-tracked by peeing in the trees or on any part of the trail he wishes to claim as "his." Then he'll catch up with us again.

Here he is looking over *his* team. He's really pretty good about not bugging them too much. Although if we take too long a break, he gets all goofy and when we start running, he jumps and flails himself around in front of the leaders, almost attempting to play with them. They just kind of ignore him and hopes he gets his big furry butt out of their way. You may notice his harness is all screwy? Yeah, well he chewed the crap out of it before we left, so it's in a bit of disarray...
